Foxford Michael Collins replica travel blanket - Michale Collins - The Story
Foxford Woollen Mills presented special commissioned Travel Blanket to General Michael Collins to mark his appointment to Commander in Chief of the newly established Irish Army in early 1922. The Blanket was in his armoured car at the ambush at Beal Na Blath in August 1922. It was recovered at Shanakiel Hospital by nurse Nora O'Donoghue, and later donated to the National Museum.
Foxford Woollen Mill is based in Foxford, County Mayo, in Ireland. It was established in 1892 by Mother Agnes Morrogh-Bernard, (Cork), to provide employment in a very impoverished area of the West of Ireland. The Mill has built a reputation for high quality woollen goods which are sold all over the world.
